The Future of Medicine Is Bright

Jun. 10, 2020

Today marks the graduation of more than 600 UPMC residents and fellows. Over the course of their training, these clinicians have made a positive impact on the lives of patients and provided critical support to colleagues.
“We are fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated group of trainees,” said Steve D. Shapiro, MD, executive vice president, chief medical and scientific officer, and president, Health Services Division, UPMC. “Our residents and fellows are often at the front lines providing high-quality, patient-centered care, and it is a privilege for UPMC to play an instrumental role in their education. We wish them the best of luck as they move to the next chapter of their careers."

Marshall Webster, MD, senior vice president, UPMC, and chair, board of directors, UPMC Medical Education, echoed those sentiments. “Residents and fellows are integral members of the UPMC health care team. The work that they do every day is invaluable, from carrying out patient care to generating new ideas on how we can improve the quality of health care. We couldn’t be more grateful for all they do to further UPMC’s mission as a leading Academic Medical Center. We are proud to see them progress to the next phase of their journey as physicians.”

“Our residents and fellows are the future of medicine, and the future is bright,” added Gregory M. Bump, MD, designated institutional official and associate dean, Graduate Medical Education. “It has been incredible to witness the growth and development of these physicians, and I have no doubt that they will go on to achieve great things.”
