Grant O'Brien, MD

  • Family Medicine Resident

I grew up in Concord, NC before heading off to Duke University where I split my time fairly evenly between neuroscience classes and waiting in line for basketball games to watch my beloved Blue Devils on the hardwood. After college, I spent two years in Warrenton, NC as a high school math teacher and then headed to the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC where my path to family medicine was solidified. I was drawn to the specialty because of its wonderful mix of breadth, depth, and continuity and am motivated to learn to provide excellent primary care for people of all ages while also pursuing interests in obstetrics, quality improvement, and academic medicine. I am thrilled to be at UPMC St. Margaret for its close-knit and supportive community of residents and faculty and staff, well-rounded full-spectrum education, and the chance to live in an exciting and livable city. Outside of the hospital, you can find me walking and eating around Pittsburgh with my lovely wife Georgie, staying active through running, biking, and pickup sports, going to concerts, or watching basketball and soccer.
